Dates (meeting on the 1st and 3rd Sundays starting in November 3, 2024)
Times:
-- Beginner Lesson: 1:00 - 1:45 FEE: $3.00
-- Group Jam session: 2:00 - 3:30 FEE: NONE
Location: Sun Lakes Cottonwood Clubhouse - Phoenix Room (A9) (just South of the Pool - in new classroom building)
25630 S Brentwood Dr, Sun Lakes, AZ 85248
What you need for the Beginner Class
- Fee: $3.00 for each session (if you stick around for the Jam session there's no additional charge)
- A Standard tuning ukulele - G-C-E-A tuning - no Baritones please. Your instrument must be in playable condition which means the tuning pegs work (they don't slip) and the strings are relatively new. Standard ukuleles come in three sizes: soprano, concert, and tenor. I recommend either the concert or tenor because they are easier to play. Watch this video if you want more information before you buy.
- A digital tuner, preferably one that is calibrated for chromatic tuning and clips onto the ukulele headstock. Check out the D'Addario Eclipse Clip-On Tuner for example. You can find them online or in local music stores.
- Available for purchase: Beginner Book: Alfred's Teach Yourself to Play Ukulele $15
For the Ukulele Group Jam and sing along sessions
- Fee: NONE
- Both Standard and Baritone ukulele players of all levels are welcome in the jam and sing along group
- Music used:
- The Sun Lakes Ukes Jam Session Website - A set of songs compiled by Nancy - Click here to find the full set of songs and resource material. I use a projector to display the songs up on the wall. You can also use the above link to download your own copy to your tablet. There is a .pdf file with the complete set of music.
- The summer Jam Group uses these books - if you don't have it you don't need to purchase it just now
- The Daily Ukulele, 365 Songs for Better Living - (the Yellow Book) compiled by Liz and Jim Beloff and published by Hal Leonard
(Available for standard and baritone ukulele at most music stores in the area and also through Amazon online) - The Daily Ukulele Leapyear Edition - (the Blue Book) also compiled by Liz and Jim Beloff and published by Hal Leonard.
